Where To Find Culinary Inspiration
Winter is slowly fading away and the beautiful, sunny days of summer will soon descend upon us. I’m looking forward to the seasonal produce and refreshing meals that are indicative of summertime. You may desire to take advantage of all things culinary that summer has to offer. At times, it may be difficult to determine what to cook and where to search for inspiration . Sometimes I get into a culinary slump as well. Let me share with you resources I utilize to help me get those culinary juices flowing again.
1. GimmeSomeOven and OnceUponAChef
These two sites are my go-to when I’m unsure of what to make. I have featured recipes from both of these sites here on my website before. I can’t rave enough about the multitude of soups featured on GimmeSomeOven and I make her Lentil Soup recipe at least once a month. The creator of OnceUponAChef is a trained culinary school graduate and worked in restaurants. Her recipes are meticulously tested and her Gingerbread recipe is the only one I will ever need. It is that good. Take a look at each of these websites next time you need a little #culinaryinspo.
2. TheKitchn
TheKitchn is a website I utilize with one caveat. I find the website slightly overwhelming and overstimulating that it can be hard to filter through recipes. The strategy I employ is to find “roundup” articles. Instead of searching for a single salad recipe, I recommend searching for “The 20 best salads we have EVER had ”. Instead of searching for a glazed ham recipe , try searching for an article such as “Dishes you need to have at your Easter celebration”. Roundup articles will make your life much easier. Also, TheKitchn recipes tend to have step-by-step photos which is extremely helpful.
3. The Library
If you don’t have a library card, sign up for one now. It’s free. I will peruse the cookbook aisle at my local library to see what strikes my fancy. Your library will likely have cookbooks featuring world cuisines, the basics of cooking, and desserts or pastries. You are sure to find culinary nirvana and inspiration at your local library. Once again, IT IS FREE.
4. Facebook and Instagram
Social media can be a blessing when it comes to seeking out culinary inspiration. If I want to make chicken pot pie or lemon meringue pie I will search these recipes in the Facebook Search Bar to find posts and recipes. Instagram is constantly updating and now you can follow #hashtags of interest to you. Hashtags you follow will show up in your feed along with the accounts you follow. Following hashtags such as #cooking #homecook #recipe may lead you to new recipes and culinary ideas. If you want to follow along with my culinary experiences, give my Instagram a follow by clicking here
I hope this post will help get your culinary juices flowing again if they have been stagnant. We all go through cooking slumps and sometimes we find inspiration in the unlikeliest of places.
