How The Library Can Improve Your Cooking
Libraries are a magical place. As an avid reader growing up, there was nothing better then spending hours combing the library shelves for the next book for me to dive into. In elementary school I loved libraries so much that I was legit distraught when my parents didn't let me check-out 13 books at once. My younger self settled for going home with only my Top 3. As you can see, libraries hold a special place in my (sometimes angsty) heart.
I am always trying to improve my technique and flavor combinations for healthy (and sometimes not so healthy) dishes. I like to create dishes from cookbooks, but these can start to get to pricey after a while. What are you to do when the price of your culinary endeavors exceeds the money in your bank account?
You turn to one of my favorite places of course: the library. Libraries are full of fiction, non-fiction, magazines, and DVDS but some people may not be aware that libraries house an impressive collection of cookbooks. From general "How to Cook Everything" cookbooks to cookbooks that specialize in baking or specialized cuisines, the options are endless.
Cookbooks borrowed from the library are a great way to test your interest in the book without the financial commitment right away. You can cook from it for a few weeks and determine whether it is something you want to invest your hard-earned dollars on.
So the next time you are looking to learn a new technique or just want some new recipes for your repertoire, consider borrowing a cookbook or two from your local library. You will save some money and may discover a cookbook worthy of purchasing for your shelves at home.
Happy reading and happy cooking!
