The Digestive System Part 1: The Gastrointestinal (GI) Tract

Hello guys!
I decided to say carpe diem to myself and start sprinkling in nutrition focused posts on my blog. The first posts will be a 4 part series on the digestive system. I hope you find it informational and interesting. Today we will discuss the first part of the digestive system and that is the Gastrointestinal (GI) Tract. Read on to learn about how it works and what is involved.

The GI Tract
1.Food enters our mouth and passes down the esophagus into our stomach
2.Food continues from the stomach to our small intestine
3.Carbohydrates, fat, and most protein get broken down in the small intestine. These are absorbed by the body along with vitamins, minerals, and some water.
4.After the small intestine, the large intestine absorbs some more minerals and water
5.The end: Any leftover food particles are converted to stool and excreted

The next post will focus on the second part of our digestive system.
